XFL League Betting Guide for NJ Players

Author: americangambler | Last Updated: January 24, 2020

XFL Betting came to New Jersey, the league kicked off February 8 2020. For NJ football bettors who go into hibernation after the annual Super Bowl, this winter brought something new just days after the NFL season finishes.

XFL League: Short Intro

The eight-team XFL league (Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, St. Louis, Seattle, Tampa Bay and Washington) start February with two games, as Seattle visits Washington D.C. in the 2 p.m. contest, and Los Angeles heads to Houston for the 5 p.m. game.

Every game of the 79-day season will be broadcast by Fox, ESPN, or ABC, with the championship set for April 26 at 3 p.m. on ESPN.

The first iteration of the XFL came almost two decades ago, way back in 2001. The league lasted one season, but there is much hope that this new league will stick around much longer.

Bet365 NJ and William Hill should have the odds up for the opening weekend soon. There will also be future betting on the league. Before the season starts, many books have the New York Guardians, Los Angeles Wildcats, and Dallas Renegades as the three teams with almost identical odds to take home the trophy.

Legal sports betting is an important way for fans to engage with our game in New Jersey and other communities across the country. “With the kickoff to our season less than three weeks away, we are excited to get going.

What to know before betting on XFL

Betting should look much like traditional football, with pregame spreads, money lines, over/under totals, and proposition bets. Once the XFL League contests start, there will be live in-play betting, which could be big for this league thanks to some interesting new rules.

On kickoffs and punts, the XFL teams are discouraged from trying to get touchbacks, and many of the blocking rules differ. Overtime will be decided by a five-round “shootout” from the two-point conversion line. Each team gets five attempts, and whoever has more points wins the game, with that repeating until there is a winner in event the game is still tied.

But the real changes come in the tries after a touchdown. There are no extra point kicks: a team can try for one point from the two yard line, two points from the five yard line, and three points from the 10 yard line. These XFL League rules should almost eliminate many of the overtime games, because teams can take the game into their own hands as it goes.

There will also be two forward passes allowed on a play, as long as the first one does not go past the line of scrimmage.

Betting on XFL over/under totals

One rule that will definitely affect the over/under totals for XFL games (and betting) will be the running clock. The clock will run continuously outside of two minutes except on change of possessions. The league wants the games to finish in much shorter times than other football games, something that should hold the attention of viewers.

With the new wrinkles in this league, and the fact that it is a seamless transition from the end of the NFL to the beginning of the XFL, bettors should take to this pretty well.

The XFL is back, and if you live in New Jersey (as well as Indiana, Iowa, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island), you will be able to make wagers on the reworked league owned by Vince McMahon of the WWE, thanks to the approval of the Division of Gaming Enforcement on January 15.

PointsBet NJ is Exclusive Betting Partner of XFL

Online sportsbook PointsBet (operating in Indiana, New Jersey, Colorado) has agreed to a deal to become an authorized gaming operator of the XFL.

PointBet NJ will receive access to the XFL’s official league data and content to be used across both the sportsbook’s online site and mobile app. PointsBet will be integrated into weekly digital content provided by the XFL.

The XFL has been open about embracing the betting aspect of pro football. The league has displayed point spreads during games and announcers have discussed the betting odds during broadcasts of XFL action.

“Embracing the spread is a core business strategy for us and our new alliance with PointsBet is the latest example of how we are engaging football fans through legal sports betting,” Jeffrey Pollack, President and COO of the XFL, said in a statement.

PointsBet indicated that it handled more bets during the first week of the XFL season than it had during the entire length of last season’s ill-fated AAF.

As part of the agreement, PointsBet will promote the XFL and offer XFL betting markets to its customers throughout the remainder of the 2020 season and into the playoffs. The XFL Championship game is slated for April 26.

PointsBet currently has sportsbooks operational in New Jersey and Iowa. They are nearing openings in Indiana and Illinois and have agreements in place to set up sports betting operations in eight other US states.
