Tennessee v Pittsburgh Spreads

After demolishing Ball State in Week 1, the Volunteers are garnering a lot of respect here in the Tennessee v Pittsburgh betting odds. Tennessee (-6) enters as a significant road favorite.

To cover this number, Tennessee will likely need a lot of offense. They put up a whopping 569 yards in their season opener, including rushing for 218 yards. Look for the Vols to try and get the ground game going again against a Pitt defense that was gouged for 218 rushing yards against West Virginia.

Tennessee ranked 12th in the nation in rushing last year, stacking up an impressive 219 yards per game.

Despite their porous run defense in Week 1, Pittsburgh was excellent against the run in 2021, allowing just 88.5 yards per game (6th in the nation). They will be hoping the opener was just an aberration and not a harbinger of things to come.

Tennessee ATS trends

  • 2022: 1-0
  • 2021: 5-8 (1-4 against top-25)

Pittsburgh ATS trends

  • 2022: 0-1
  • 2021: 10-4 (1-1 against top-25)

College football is a bit different from NFL betting, but many of the same strategies apply.

Best Tennessee vs. Pittsburgh Moneyline Bets

If you are looking to fade Tennessee v Pittsburgh spreads, you can consider betting the moneyline.

Tennessee (-225) doesn’t offer prospective bettors a ton of value. A $100 straight-up bet on the Vols would only net around $45.

With that said, if you don’t want to take your chances with the point spread and are looking for a greater return on your bet, Tennessee does make an intriguing parlay/teaser candidate as part of a larger betting slip.

Pittsburgh (+180) looks like significantly better value as a home underdog here. Pitt was excellent throughout 2021 and brings an explosive attack into this battle led by QB Kedon Slovis.

If the Panthers can correct their lackluster run defense from the opening game and put the pressure on Hedon Hooker, an upset victory isn’t out of the question.

Tennessee moneyline trends

  • 2022: 1-0
  • 2021: 7-6 (1-4 against top-25)

Pittsburgh moneyline trends

  • 2022: 1-0
  • 2021: 11-3 (1-1 against top-25)

Over/Unders

Another betting option to consider for Tennessee v Pittsburgh odds is over/unders.

Both of these teams featured elite scoring offenses in 2021. Pittsburgh ranked 6th in the nation averaging 38.7 points per game, while Tennessee was right behind them in 7th, averaging 37.9 per contest.

Both teams flexed their offensive muscles in Week 1, showcasing a brilliant combination of ground and aerial attacks.

Oddsmakers have clearly taken note of these top offenses, setting the over/under for this one at a hefty 64.5.

While that’s a big number, these teams easily have the capacity to reach it.

Tennessee over trends:

  • 2022: 1-0
  • 2021: 10-3 (3-2 vs. top-25)

Pittsburgh over trends

  • 2022: 1-0
  • 2021: 8-6 (0-2 vs top-25)

What are the odds of Either Team Winning the National Title?

Despite both coming out of Week 1 with a win, the needle did not move much when it comes to National Title odds for these two programs.

Tennessee v Pittsburgh Prediction

In breaking down Tennesse v Pittsburgh odds, the Vols look to be much improved from a season ago and showed exactly how lethal they can be with a 59-10 thumping in Week 1. Their run/pass combo should create significant mismatches throughout the day on Saturday

Pittsburgh was far from convincing despite pulling out a win in their season opener. They are in for a rough afternoon if they don’t plug up the holes in their run defense. With that said, this is a tough-nosed, battle-tested squad that isn’t about to roll over on their home field.

Expect a tight game that could come down to the final minutes.

Prediction: Tennessee 44, Pittsburgh 41
