The bout will take place at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, without fans in attendance due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Sportsbooks in the USA were quick to price up the two contenders after it was announced the pair—with a combined age of 105—will go to war in a battle between veterans.

The Sportsbook has each Hall of Famer priced at -110 (1.91) with seven weeks to go until they meet in the ring, though Jones Jr. could hold a significant edge over “Iron Mike.”

Tyson vs. Jones Jr. Prediction

Tyson, 54, last fought in June 2005 but recently gained attention for training his way back to fighting fitness. Amid much speculation, it’s now become clear that conditioning was for the purpose of a comeback fight:

Jones Jr., 51, has been far more active in the last two decades and fought as recently as February 2018, when he sealed a fourth consecutive win against American Scott Sigmon. He finished former world cruiserweight title contender Bobby Gunn one year prior to that having fought almost continuously since making his professional debut in 1989.

“Superman” (66-9) started his career at middleweight and held world titles in four divisions—including heavyweight—whereas Tyson fought consistently as a heavyweight. Tyson (50-6) was the undisputed heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990 but won only two of his last six fights, retiring after the sixth round in his last bout against Kevin McBride in June 2005.

Andy Foster, executive director of the California State Athletic Commission, told Yahoo Sports the legends will likely wear 12-ounce gloves and aren’t “going out there to try to take each other’s heads off.”

Fans will be delighted to see two such esteemed professionals re-enter the ring against one another in any capacity given their standing, with the margins between the two incredibly tight.
