Chiefs at Buccaneers Odds, Lines, and Predictions

Author: AmericanGambler1234 | Last Updated: September 30, 2022

Two teams who faced off in the Super Bowl a mere two years ago are set to do so again in Tampa this week as we examine the latest Chiefs vs Bucs odds.

Neither team got out of their matchup last week how they wanted to, with the Chiefs allowing the Indianapolis Colts to notch their first win of the season and the Buccaneers dropping a game at home against the visiting Green Bay Packers.

Can Kansas City get back on track in Tampa Bay, or will the Buccaneers right their ship?

Chiefs vs Bucs Injury Report

Injuries can play a big role in NFL betting strategy. Here’s a look at the latest injury report:

Chiefs

  • DE Michael Danna (Calf)
  • WR Mecole Hardman (Heel)
  • DT Chris Jones (Not Injury Related)
  • RB Ronald Jones (Illness)
  • K Harrison Butker (Left Ankle)
  • WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (Abdomen)
  • WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (Shoulder)
  • OT Andrew Wylie (Hip)

Buccaneers

  • QB Tom Brady (Right Finger)
  • WR Russell Gage (Hamstring)
  • WR Chris Godwin (Hamstring/Rest)
  • DE Logan Hall (Groin)
  • DE Akiem Hicks (Foot)
  • WR Julio Jones (Knee)
  • WR Breshad Perriman (Knee/Hamstring)
  • OT Donovan Smith (Elbow)

Despite the eight names listed on their report, the Chiefs have one of the brighter-looking injury reports in the league heading into the coming week. Chris Jones doesn’t carry an injury designation and was a full participant in practice on Thursday after an absence on Wednesday. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Andrew Wylie have been full participants in practice despite their designations.

The Buccaneers, conversely, have been playing through a battering to their offensive depth, especially their offensive line and receiving corps. Mike Evans, Scotty Miller, and Jaelon Darden are the only receivers on the Bucs depth chart to escape the injury report without a designation this week.

Donovan Smith is just the latest in a series of injuries to Tampa’s offensive line that’s already seen three linemen placed on injured reserve. Their offense could get ugly in a hurry if Smith – who was a limited participant in practice – is out for any extended time. Will it affect Week 4’s Chiefs vs Bucs odds?

Chiefs vs Bucs Head-to-Head

There isn’t a ton in Chiefs vs Bucs history to pull from.

Kansas City and Tampa Bay have only met twice in the last five years – both times as part of the 2020 NFL season. The Chiefs won the earlier matchup 27-24, but lost later in the game that saw Tom Brady win his seventh ring. Both games saw the Buccaneers cover the spread as underdogs, and neither saw the teams go over the point total.

For what it’s worth, the last Chiefs vs Bucs matchup to tag the Buccaneers as favorites happened in 2012 – when the teams were led at quarterback by Brady Quinn and Josh Freeman. They won 38-10 in Tampa.

Chiefs recent record on the road

  • The Chiefs are 3-2 straight-up in their last five away games
  • They are 2-3 against the spread (all as favorites)
  • The over is 4-1 in their last five road games.

Buccaneers recent record at Raymond James Stadium

  • The Bucs are 2-3 straight-up in their last five home games
  • They are 2-3 ATS in their last five home games
  • The over is 1-3 in their last four home games

Chiefs vs Bucs Prediction

Neither team looked great on offense last week, and it’s hard to bet on either unit suddenly returning to explosive form against each other – especially the Buccaneers.

The Chiefs haven’t been nearly as sluggish, but they’ve scored fewer points in each successive game after racking up 44 against the Cardinals in their opener. They didn’t cover the spread or hit the over in their last two games against the Chargers or Colts.

In looking at Chiefs vs Bucs odds, the line for the game is as close as any, but a high-scoring affair – as weird as it is to say for a game featuring Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes – would be a huge surprise. Expect Chiefs vs Bucs to be one of the lower-scoring spectacles of the weekend. Look for the Chiefs to edge it out.

Prediction: Chiefs 20, Buccaneers 17
