Atlantic City sports betting legislation and future

Atlantic City (NJ) has been the hub of legal casino gambling on the east coast for decades. Off-track betting, charity gambling, and casino games have been legal for visitors and residents for decades. And online casino and poker were legalized in 2013.

But sports betting in Atlantic City was only launched in 2018 following New Jersey’s successful challenge against PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act) of 1992. The US Supreme Court overturned the ruling that single-match betting on sports was against the law. As a result, sports betting in Atlantic City became a reality.
