Key Players to Watch

There will be several future NFL players taking the field on Saturday with the ability to shift the betting odds for Alabama v Texas at a moment’s notice.

Alabama brings back several key players from last year’s team, including decorated QB Bryce Young. The Longhorns look significantly improved from last year’s disappointing 5-7 mark and have their sights set much higher in 2022.

Here’s a look at some potential game-breakers on Saturday:

Alabama

  • QB Bryce Young (Jr.)
  • RB Jahmyr Gibbs (Jr.)
  • LB Will Anderson (Jr.)
  • SS Jordan Battle (Sr.)
  • CB Eli Ricks (CB)

Texas

  • QB Quinn Ewers (Fr.)
  • RB Bijan Robinson (Jr.)
  • WR Xavier Worthy (Jr.)
  • DT Keondre Coburn (Sr.)
  • LB DeMarvion Overshown (Sr.)

Alabama v Texas Spreads

Alabama (-20.5) are massive road favorites here as oddsmakers expect the Tide to roll to a 2-0 start. Point spreads in the college game are generally much larger than we see with NFL betting.

Bama flexed their muscles in Week 1 with a dominating performance on both sides of the ball.  With talent up and down their roster, they look poised for another massive performance on Saturday.

Both of these offenses can move the ball. Last year, the Tide scored 5th in the nation, averaging 39.3 per game. The Longhorns weren’t far off that pace, ranking 17th at 35.3 per contest.

Texas Freshman Quinn Ewers impressed in the season opener, firing for 225 yards and a pair of TDs.

The bigger discrepancy between these teams lies on the defensive side. Alabama allowed just 20.6 per contest (17th) while Texas conceded an alarming 31.1 (93rd).

The Alabama defense is loaded with blue-chip NFL prospects that could cause a lot of issues for Ewers. While the Longhorn defense looks to be much improved from a year ago, getting consistent stops against Bryce Young looks like a tall task.

Alabama ATS trends

  • 2022: 1-0
  • 2021: 8-7 (4-3 vs top-25)

Texas ATS trends:

  • 2022: 1-0
  • 2021: 5-7 (1-3 vs top-25)

Best Alabama v Texas moneyline bets

Given the large spread, you may want to consider some other Alabama v Texas betting odds.

Alabama (-1400) doesn’t make much sense as a moneyline bet here. Given their overwhelming odds, you are likely better off taking your chances with the spread or betting on an adjusted line.

Texas (+800) as a home underdog has a bit more intrigue as a small wager but also isn’t recommended given the potency of Alabama on both sides of the ball.

Alabama moneyline trends

  • 2022: 1-0
  • 2021: 13-2 (6-1 vs top-25)

Texas moneyline trends

  • 2022: 1-0
  • 2021: 5-7 (1-3 vs top-25)

Over/Unders

Both of these offenses feature elite-level talent capable of putting up points in a hurry. The two teams combined for 97 points in Week One.  Oddsmakers have taken note, setting the over/under for this game at a lofty 65.5

The key matchup for these Texas v Alabama odds will be whether or not the Longhorns’ defense can do anything to slow down Bryce Young and the Crimson Tide offense.

Alabama over trends

  • 2022- 0-1
  • 2021: 7-8 (3-4 vs top-25)

Texas over trend

  • 2022: 0-1
  • 2021: 5-7 (1-3 vs top-25)

What are the odds of either team winning the National Title?

After losing the Title Game a year ago, Alabama entered the 2022 season as preseason favorites according to the odds at BetMGM. They did little to dissuade bettors with a comprehensive win in the opener.

Texas looks to be significantly improved after a lackluster 2021, currently sitting with the 8th best title odds.

Here is a look at where both teams stack up with other top contenders

  • Alabama: +150
  • Ohio State: +320
  • Georgia: +350
  • Clemson: +1200
  • Texas: +4000

Alabama vs. Texas prediction

The current Alabama v Texas odds reflect the massive amount of respect the Crimson Tide get given their past decade of dominance.

There was a lot of hype surrounding this Longhorns squad heading into the season, and they did not disappoint, coming out of the gates hot in Week 1.

Ultimately, there is just too much skill on the Alabama side. The talent gap will be apparent over 60 minutes. However, look for an upstart Texas team to surprise early by hanging around in the first half and keeping the home fans engaged.

While Alabama is an undisputed force in College Football, they haven’t necessarily dominated against the spread going just 8-7 last year. Expect a relatively close game, even if it’s not a nail-biter in the final minutes.

Prediction: Alabama 35, Texas 20
