It’s been years since a running back entered the league with the hype that came with Bijan Robinson. In his first week with the Atlanta Falcons, Robinson totaled 83 yards from scrimmage on 16 touches – or 56 yards on 10 carries and 27 yards on six catches. This came in spite of Robinson taking fewer carries than Tyler Allgeier, who ran for 75 yards on 15 carries, and an overall conservative approach to the passing game by Atlanta. Desmond Ridder completed 15 of 18 passes for only 115 yards; Robinson led the team in both yards and catches.

The Falcons are 1-0 after defeating the Carolina Panthers 24-10 with this approach, and they’ll get to play a second home game to open the season against the Green Bay Packers. The Packers stomped the Bears 38-20 last week, but their defense may not be nearly as ferocious as the Bears’ offense made them look. Robinson’s role in the offense figures to grow bigger as the season progresses, his Week 1 returns were promising, and the team may lean on him if the Packers prove to be a significantly bigger challenge.

Of every moment that happened over the course of Week 1, few were nearly as deflating as Aaron Rodgers’ abrupt departure from Monday Night Football – and, presumably, the rest of this season – with a torn Achilles tendon. As things stand, NFL fans can expect to see Zach Wilson under center for the New York Jets unless poor play forces the organization to make a move.

The Panthers are 0-1 in the Frank Reich and Bryce Young era heading into Monday Night Football against the New Orleans Saints. Young completed only 20 of 38 passes in the team’s loss to the Falcons last week, gaining only 146 yards and one touchdown against two interceptions. If Young is able to reach the passing yards line this week that most sportsbooks have for him, it’d represent a significant improvement from that performance.
Unfortunately for him, the Panthers are facing a Saints defense that soundly defeated the Titans offense in their 16-15 win last Sunday. Ryan Tannehill threw for 198 yards, barely passing the line set for Young, and threw three interceptions while failing to complete a touchdown pass. Most of the Titans’ passing success came through DeAndre Hopkins, who gained 65 yards on 7 catches in the loss. Young didn’t have a wide receiver secure more than two catches in the Panthers’ loss.
