Is Bet365 Coming To Illinois?
Could mighty online sportsbook giant Bet365 be eyeing the newly-opened Illinois online sports betting app market?
Certainly, there’s an opportunistic connection already in place that could enable such a desire to come to fruition for Bet365. There’s a Hard Rock Casino in Rockford. In New Jersey, Bet365 operates its online sports betting and casino in partnership with the Atlantic City Hard Rock Casino.
However, there’s also a major stumbling block in Illinois that will likely delay the arrival of Bet365 to the Land of Lincoln. As part of the new laws in place governing sports betting in Illinois, a moratorium was put in place prohibiting online-only operations from opening in the state for the first 18 months after online sports betting was legalized. The law was put on the books in order to punish FanDuel and DraftKings, who previously defied an Illinois law prohibiting daily fantasy sports. But as long as the ruling is in place, it also figures to prevent the presence of other online-only outfits such as Bet365 from arriving in Illinois.

DraftKings did find a workaround to the rule, agreeing to open a retail sportsbook with the Casino Queen in East St. Louis. That gives them the right to also offer online sports betting.
Bet365 could opt to do likewise and open a retail sportsbook at the Hard Rock as a way to bring their online product to the state. Recently Betrivers Illinois launched its app in the state.
