The opening day of any World Cup is always a party
It is the first match in a long process to get the tournament underway, and it is a chance for fans of the host team to celebrate on the world’s biggest stage.
Friday, that opening game, pitting the France against the Korea Republic, also happens to have the tournament favorite taking the pitch.
The United States in 1999 is still the only nation to win as hosts, with two teams winning the cup in neighboring countries: Norway in 1995 (Sweden hosted) and the USA in 2015 (Canada hosted). In five of the seven previous tournaments, the host team lost in the quarterfinals.
If results in the group stage matches go as expected, that is where the French side could meet the defending champions. But that is not for awhile: Friday is about the first match.
France is a massive -770 money line favorite with 888 Sport, with South Korea way out at +2500.
To make some money on the French, you will have to look around at some other value bets. If you think France jumps out early and embraces the pressure of the tournament, you can get France -1 in the first half at +188. On the Asian Handicap, the French are -2.25 at -107, with the first half -1 at -103.
France vs. Korea Republic June 7 Prediction and Favorites
Eugenie Le Sommer is the overwhelming favorite to score anytime at -167, while her French team mate Gaetane Thiney is -110 to score anytime.
The Asian Handicap total of three goals is set at -108 for the over, and -115 for the under.
France to get over 5.5 corners is -180, and over 6.5 is +108. With the French side attacking, the corner bets may end up as a good way to go.
