William Hill Offering 78th Golden Globe 2021 Betting Odds
The nominations for the Golden Globes are out, and William Hill USA sportsbook is offering odds on the major categories. The 2021 Golden Globes, often viewed as a precursor to how the Academy Awards will play out, will be presented in a bicoastal ceremony on Feb. 28. Co-hosts Tina Fey (New York) and Amy Poehler (Los Angeles) are taking social distancing to the extreme, operating on opposite sides of the USA.
78th Golden Globe Awards betting guide:
Odds in popular Golden Globe 2021 film nominations
Best Actor (Drama) Odds
The sentimental favorite is also the betting favorite, according to NJ betting sites. Chadwick Boseman, who lost his life to cancer last year at the age of 43, is the overwhelming odds-on -275 favorite for his work in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
While it’s difficult to imagine anyone beating Boseman in this category, under normal circumstances, veteran thespians Anthony Hopkins (+500, The Father) and Gary Oldman (+700, Mank) would warrant serious consideration for their performances.
Best Actress (Drama) Odds
Viola Davis, for her work opposite Boseman in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman) are the +175 co-favorites in a very competitive category.
The legendary Frances McDormand is a tempting play at +300 for Nomadland. However, don’t be surprised if +1000 longshot Andrea Day (The United States vs Billie Holliday) doesn’t pip them all at the post.
Best Actor (Comedy/Musical) Odds
Can the star of a sequel run first in the balloting? Sascha Baron Cohen’s reprisal of Borat Sagdiyev in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm is the +110 chalk.
Lurking at +250 is Lin Miranda for Hamilton and let’s face it, you’re well aware of the popularity of Hamilton with the masses, because everyone who’s seen it can’t stop talking about it.
Best Actress (Comedy/Musical) Odds
Again, the oddsmakers are leaning toward Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, listing co-star Maria Bakalova as the -138 betting choice for her breakout performance.
There’s plenty of veteran star power in this category, including Michelle Pfieffer (+275, French Exit), Kate Hudson (+800, Music) and Rosamund Pike (+900, I Care A Lot). Here, though, it’s best to roll with the favorite.
Golden Globe Best Director Odds
It wasn’t all that long when there weren’t any female directors nominated for this award. This year, there’s a trio in contention. Chloe Zaho is the prohibitive -400 choice for Nomadland, with good reason.
She should win, although there might be some surprising love for Aaron Sorkin (+1200, The Trial Of The Chicago 7).
Best Motion Picture (Drama) Odds
Nomadland is the -150 odds-on chalk in this category and once more should be the winner.
On the other hand, in this politically-charged climate, might the left-leaning Hollywood elite reach for a blast from the past in The Trial Of The Chicago 7 at +275?
Best Motion Picture (Comedy/Musical) Odds
See Hamilton favored at -150 betting odds. See above note under Golden Flobe 2021 best actor (comedy/musical) about the passionate love affair between the general public and Hamilton.
