It was a good year for the University of Houston. And not so much for Rice University.
Houston went 8-5 in football but lost four of their last five games after an impressive 7-1 start to the season. They want to a Bowl game but got trounced by Army. New head coach Dana Holgersen, who left West Virginia to join the Cougars, will look to take the team further in 2019.
In basketball, the Cougars had a great season. They went 33-4 during the season, easily won the AAC and made it to the NCAA Sweet 16 before losing to prevail power Kentucky.
Rice, playing in Conference USA, went 2-11 in football and 13-19 in basketball. Obviously, the Owls are looking to get better in both in 2019 and 2020.
