What does over/under mean in football betting?

This is the American Football version of total goals. Again the oddsmakers will come up with a number they feel is fair and will generate an equal amount of wagering on each side. The bettor then must decide if he/she wants to wager on the over or the under.

For example if the Green Bay Packers are playing the New York Giants and the over/under number is 47. A bet on the over 47 means the bettor thinks the total score of both teams will be more than 47 points. A bet on the under 47 means the bettor think the total score of both teams will be less than 47.

If the final score of the game is Green Bay Packers 28, New York Giants 21, then the over bet is a winner. If the final score of the game is Green Bay Packers 28, New York Giants 14, then the under bet is a winner. If the final score of the game is Green Bay Packers 27, New York Giants 20, then the bet is a “push’’ and the amount of the bet is returned to the bettor.
