UEFA Champions League Round-of-16 set: teams with best odds of dethroning Bayern Munich
Monday, the draw for the UEFA Champions League (and Europa League) took place, and there are more than a few intriguing ties, while also some that look to be very clearly one-sided.
But the main question from the draw has to be, can any team beat Bayern Munich in this tournament? The defending champions are still the clear choice with the sports books in the future odds, at around +250. That could drop some, as the Bavarians look to be heavy favorites in their Round-of-16 two-legged tie with Lazio. Just two teams are priced lower than 10-1 in the preliminary odds released Monday, with Manchester City at +380, and Liverpool set at +650.
Seven more teams started the odds between 11-1 and 18-1, showing just how wide open this tournament could be if you find faults with the top three teams.
And there are some faults: Bayern Munich has gone off the boil a little bit since its ridiculous run to win every piece of silverware on offer last year and so far this season. But the German side is clearly the best team in the cup, and will take a lot to beat, especially over two legs.
Manchester City has started to play better after a slow start to the 2020-21 domestic campaign, but seems to have problems on the continent in two-legged ties. Liverpool is banged up, and losing players every week.
