Sporttrade Sports Betting Exchange in USA
Sporttrade Poised To Become First Legal Sports Betting Exchange In USA.
Sports betting exchanges are nothing new to the industry. Betfair has offered exchange betting for years. Smarkets is another popular form of this style of wagering.
So far, since the 2018 legalization of sports betting across the USA, this style of wagering hasn’t arrived on American shores. It would appear that situation is about to change.
Sporttrade and Twin River Worldwide Holdings reached a multi-year licensing partnership agreement earlier this week for the state of New Jersey. The partnership will lead to the launch of Sporttrade’s online betting product in the state, pending Twin River obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals to complete its acquisition of Bally’s Atlantic City Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, N.J. from Caesars Entertainment.
A startup based in Philadelphia, Sporttrade offers a proprietary sports betting exchange product. Sporttrade is poised to enter the U.S. market with the first regulated sports betting exchange in the country’s history.
How does it work?
With a sports betting exchange, the bookmaker is basically eliminated from the transaction. Bettors establish the parameters of a wager, and then seek out a partner to take the opposite stand on the play. The exchange receives a small percentage of the bet off the top as a fee for facilitating the exchange.
Another difference with a betting exchange is that it offers a player the opportunity to lay odds against something happening. For instance, if a player thinks that the Dallas Cowboys will lose to the New York Giants in an NFL game, they can lay odds on a Dallas loss. Another bettor will choose to back the Cowboys to win. Once both sides agree to the terms of the bet, the exchange is on.
The person who opts to lay the odds is basically taking on the role traditionally filled by the bookmaker. Under traditional betting systems, it’s the bookmaker who lays odds against the bet a player chooses to back.
The arrival of Sporttrade is just one element of the sports betting empire that will operate out of Ballys once Twin River completes the takeover. The company is allowed three online skins under New Jersey sports betting law. Twin River also announced recent agreements to partner with theScore Bet and Esports Entertainment Group to offer online sports betting. Operators of VIE.gg, EEG would be the first all-Esports betting site operating in the USA.
