Rhode Island online sports betting legal situation
Sports betting is legal in Rhode Island as well as online betting via apps (Tiverton Casino). The governor signed the sports betting bill into law in June 2018 and the state took its first bets in November 2018. Following the Supreme Court decision on May 14, 2018, that struck down the federal ban on sports betting (PASPA), states can legalize sports betting with legislative approval.
Rhode Island has two land-based casino locations to bet on sports. If you live in Rhode Island and are at least 18 years of age, you can bet on pro and college football or basketball, baseball, hockey, golf, tennis, soccer and other types of sports.

The Rhode Island lottery regulates and oversees the state’s sports betting industry. The state shares in the profits and receives 51% of sports betting revenue. The sportsbook vendor (IGT) receives 32% and the casino 17%.
Senate Bill S 37 was introduced at the Rhode Island legislature in 2019 seeks to legalize mobile wagering at authorized facilities. It has been approved by the Senate and goes to the House for approval in March, 2019.
