Online sports betting in Mississippi

Sports betting is legal in Mississippi. Following the Supreme Court decision on May 14, 2018 that struck down the federal ban on sports betting (PASPA), states can legalize sports betting with legislative approval. The Mississippi Gaming Commission released draft regulations to govern sports betting immediately following the Supreme Court decision. On Aug. 1, 2018, Mississippi became the fourth state in the U.S. with active legal sports betting.

Legislation updates on sports betting in Mississippi

Legislators in the Magnolia state were preparing for sports betting and the Supreme Court decision in 2017. Mississippi lawmakers stripped language prohibiting sports betting from state law, and in the same bill authorized daily fantasy sports (DFS) in the state.

While the state currently has legal sports betting, regulations from the Mississippi Gaming Commission prohibit mobile sports wagering anywhere but on-site at a casino.

A bill introduced at the Mississippi legislature that sought to legalize mobile wagering in 2019 went without a hearing and died in February. The sports betting bills that were filed and can be reviewed are:

Legal sports betting in Mississippi

The legal gambling age in Mississippi is 21. Electronic sports betting is permitted, but only if conducted on-site at a property by a person that is physically present in a licensed casino. No mobile or online wagering can take place off the grounds of a casino.
