Online sports betting in Maryland
The state of Maryland is trying to get sports betting in place in 2020. Since the Supreme Court decision on May 14, 2018 that struck down the federal ban on sports betting (PASPA), states can now legalize sports betting with legislative approval.
Once sports betting bills are passed and approved, people in Maryland age 21 and over could bet on sports with much of the interest in pro football and basketball along with the major college sports plus hockey, baseball, tennis, soccer, boxing, UFC and more.
Locations to bet on sports will be decided by the legislators, but initial proposals include horse racing operators and video lottery locations.
Legislation updates on sports betting in Maryland
A sports betting bill was filed in February, 2019 would require the State Lottery and Gaming Control Agency to conduct a sports wagering operation. State approved video lottery (VTL’s) and horse racing operators could apply for a license to offer sports betting.
Casinos are not part of the initial proposal.
