When Will Fanatics Sportsbook Launch in New York?
Fanatics has made waves across the sports betting landscape in recent months, purchasing the American assets of PointsBet Sportsbook in a $225 million transaction that became official this past November.
Disclaimer
While Fanatics Sportsbook predates that move and has held a presence in other states, residents of New York are still waiting to find out when the platform will begin operation in the Empire State and join the ranks of other New York betting apps.
Fanatics Sportsbook Continues Expansion
With Fanatics’ acquisition of PointsBet comes access to states where the latter sportsbook already held a license – including New York. The State Gaming Commission gave out exactly nine licenses when it opened its doors to legal sports betting in 2021; PointsBet was among the few that made the cut while Fanatics was iced out. While Fanatics has expanded into other states across the country regardless, the deal in October marked their long-awaited entry into the New York market.
To this point, Fanatics’ expansion has included sportsbook launches in Colorado, Connecticut, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Their expansion figures to continue with launches in New York and other states where PointsBet had already acquired licensing.
PointsBet NY Shutters its Doors
As a result of their acquisition by Fanatics, PointsBet NY is already officially a Fanatics enterprise. PointsBet is no longer available in states where Fanatics Sportsbook has launched, and PointsBet NY will follow suit once Fanatics Sportsbook launches in New York. Players at PointsBet NY, once the transition occurs, will be able to log in to Fanatics Sportsbook with their PointsBet email and password to migrate their account balance and reward points.
When Will We See Fanatics in NY?
The exact launch date of Fanatics Sportsbook NY remains unknown. The New York State Gaming Commission approved Fanatics as a betting vendor on October 17, 2023 – shortly after their purchase of PointsBet’s assets became official.
An earlier announcement of the acquisition outlined February 2024, or May 2024 ‘at the latest’, as a target time for the transition from PointsBet to Fanatics to be complete across all American betting markets.
With the value of New York’s market – they led the United States in legal sports wager volume with $16.3B in 2022 – it seems unlikely that players in the state will have to wait long. Expect Fanatics to offer one of the best NY sportsbook promos in the state when the time comes.
