Head-to-Head: Oregon vs Utah

Both teams still have close games against other high-flying Pacific schools in the rearview mirror. Oregon narrowly lost 33-36 to the yet-undefeated Washington Huskies two weeks ago, while Utah pulled out a 34-32 road win against a touted USC Trojans team last Saturday. Between those four teams, the #11 Oregon State Beavers (6-1) and the #23 UCLA Bruins (5-2), half of the Pac-12 conference currently finds itself in the AP Top 25 rankings. There’s no pushovers here; this game has playoff implications for both Oregon and Utah.

While these teams have played several times as conference opponents, their matchup history offers little in terms of trends. The teams are 4-4 in their last eight meetings, with the winner covering the spread in each. The home team has won each of the last six meetings, but the road team won each of the three meetings preceding those from 2014 to 2016. The teams have failed to hit the point total in their last three meetings, but eclipsed it in each of the three preceding meetings from 2017 to 2019.

Oregon enters the game with a prolific offense – they rank second in Division I in yards per game (553.0), second in points per game (47.0), and third in yards per play (8.0). It’ll be worth seeing what gives between the Oregon ground attack, which averages a league-high 6.8 yards per rush, and a Utah defense that ranks 14th overall in yards allowed (295.4) and 9th in yards per rush (3.0)

The splits on the opposing side are less even. Utah’s offense ranks 100th in yards per game (345.0), and they’ll take on an Oregon defense that still ranks 19th (312.6) even after taking on college football’s best offense in Washington.

How to Bet on Oregon vs Utah

Betting sites across the country will have markets on the Oregon-Utah game – they’ll be easy enough to find wherever the sportsbook displays their odds for NCAA football games. Additionally, try to keep an eye out for any critical news regarding player health or availability ahead of the matchup. Between two teams as narrowly separated as Oregon and Utah, whether or not one or two key players are able to suit up can make a substantial difference.

Oregon vs Utah Predictions

There’s a few clashing trends at play here, which makes it hard to identify a ‘safe’ betting strategy. If Utah wins a low scoring game, it’d maintain a few year-to-year trends in the Oregon-Utah rivalry while also providing winning bettors a significant return on investment. It’d also represent a new low from a Ducks offense that has scored no fewer than 33 points against any of their opponents this season.

Utah, funnily enough, has scored no more than 34. Maybe they’re due to break that ceiling given they’ve scored exactly 34 points in each of their last two games, or maybe they’ll need to thread an extremely tight needle in terms of both offensive and defensive performance to pull out a win. In either case, the total line for this game might look significantly low in hindsight.

All that aside, many bettors will look at Oregon’s offense and bet on them to win and smash the over without overthinking it. They might be onto something.

Prediction: Over 48.5
