MLB Opening Day 2021: Twins take on Brewers April 1, with odds, predictions
There are not too many Major League Baseball Opening Day playoff matchups from 2020, but this is one of them.
The Minnesota Twins come into 2021 as the third choice (odds of +750) to win the American League Pennant, behind the New York Yankees (+230) and division rivals Chicago White Sox (+380).
The AL Central is one of three divisions that start the season with two teams very close in the Division race futures, although the White Sox’s (-133) odds have started to pull away from the Twins’ (+160) odds over the last few weeks. The other two at the AL West (Oakland +125, Houston +130 are the closest odds of all six divisions) and the new-look NL East (New York Mets +130, Atlanta Braves +137).
The Twins open with the Milwaukee Brewers, who are third choice in the congested NL Central (odds of +375 to win division), with St. Louis (+100) the clear favorite over Cincinnati (+333) and Chicago (+425).
It should be Kenta Maeda vs. Brandon Woodruff on the mound to start the contest.
The two main questions for both of these teams, as they chase division titles and possible postseason trophies, could come in the depth of their staffs. Minnesota might be an arm or two behind the Whie Sox, and that could add up over the season.
For the Brewers, it is more about the daily grind of the NL Central, and if the team can keep up with the Cards, Cubs, and Reds.
