NFL Week 12 Predictions: Miami Heap Further Misery on Winless New York Jets
The Dolphins have already contributed to the New York Jets going without a win in 10 games so far this season, but Miami can heap further woe on their hosts when they visit New Jersey in Week 12.
Brian Flores & Co. have plenty of motivation to get back on the winning trail after a disappointing defeat to the Denver Broncos last time out ended their five-win streak. Victory at MetLife Stadium could lift the Dolphins back level at the top of the AFC East, while the 0-10 Jets were the first team this season to be ruled out of making the playoffs, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss:
AFC East standings:
— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) November 23, 2020
🏈 Bills: 7-3
🏈 Dolphins: 6-4
🏈 Patriots: 4-6
🏈 Jets: 0-10
A good day for the Bills, even as they had a bye.
Every other team loses.
New Jersey-based customers can back Miami at -300 moneyline odds with Caesars, where the Jets don’t draw much attention at +250, a price some might call flattering in itself. The Jets have scored just 15 touchdowns this season—at least four fewer than any other team in the league—and the return to fitness of quarterback Sam Darnold doesn’t offer much brightness in an otherwise gloomy campaign.
Miami have won seven of their past nine encounters with the Jets and already shutout their division rivals 24-0 when they met back in October, with home advantage unlikely to give New York much of a reprieve:

Tua Tagovailoa made his NFL debut against the Jets and should be back in the starting quarterback slot this Sunday after Ryan Fitzpatrick replaced him late in defeat to the Broncos last time out. Flores confirmed after that result that the change of QB was down to choice despite Tagovailoa bring a foot injury into that match, and reports indicate the Alabama alumnus will return to the starter role in New Jersey, per ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe:
Miami would be unbeaten in their last six against the Jets were it not for a dramatic 22-21 defeat when they last visited East Rutherford in December 2019. There isn’t a worse team in the NFL this season than the one being coached by Adam Gase, conceding 24 points or more in all but one of their 10 losses this term (an 18-10 defeat to Buffalo in Week 10).
Caesars‘ +100 odds for Miami to cover a seven-point spread look like they’ll bare fruit considering the sizeable gap that separated these teams in Week 6. Tua will hope to dish out more damage to a team against whom he’ll always have fond memories, while the Jets could only wish for as exciting a prospect in their pocket.
