Louisiana sports betting not dead yet, as new bill attempts to pass house
Here we go again, Louisiana.
Last week, the Louisiana house struck down a bill that would have allowed sports betting in 20 casinos around the state. But that doomed bill also would have opened up betting to almost 3,000 other establishments, such as bars, truck stops, and video poker establishments, which caused the casino industry to pull its support for the bill, killing it on the spot.
But now, sports betting legislation has once again passed through the Louisiana senate, which voted 24-13 Monday to pass House Bill 459 (HB 459) the allows for fantasy sports. The bill also had another “rider” with it: sports betting legalization.
The next step for the bill is now to head back to the house, which has to vote on the new terns of the bill.
