After decades of two 10-team circuits, Major League Baseball commenced its first expansion in the early 1960s with the inclusion of the Angels and a new Washington Senators franchise after the existing organization relocated to become the Minnesota Twins. The original owner was Gene Autry, better known as “The Singing Cowboys” from motion picture fame from the 1930s-to-50s.
Autry took the “Angels” name in tribute to the previous Los Angeles Angels of the minor league Pacific Coast League, which played in south-central Los Angeles from 1903 to 1957. The PCL club folded because of the relocation of the Dodgers franchise from Brooklyn, M.Y., to Southern California.
Los Angeles Angels betting strategy
The ultimate of 500 ballclubs, the Angels beat up on the bottom-feeders in the standings, but fail to beat many superior clubs, too. Whether on or off the Angels, the plus-money squad rarely wins, makings those who wager on underdogs completely frustrated. Thus, bet on/off the Angels at books with a 10-cent straddle, like SugarHouse Sportsbook.
The Halos have two-time MVP Mike Trout, a center fielder who also owns five Silver Slugger awards yet the balance of the batting order is very inconsistent, especially among the right-handed bats. First baseman Albert Pujols, a 4-time MVP, and 6-time batting champion turns 40 in January, so the time on his Hall of Fame career is winding down. Kole Calhoun is an under0rated right fielder.
Note: for some odd reason, the Angels (except Trout) can’t seem to hit left-handed pitching over the past 2-plus seasons.
Left-hander Tyler Skaggs is the only reliable arm to take the mound every five days. Among the other Angels starters, someone always seems to be on the 10-day disabled list, leaving Anaheim hovering around, 500 all season.
