Is wagering on a driver to finish a race in the top 3 or top 5 a good bet?

Many international and some domestic sportsbooks offer wagering options whereas the goal is to bet on a driver who you believe will finish in the top 3 or the top 5 of a race. These are variances of betting on a driver to win, but with a significantly reduced payout. Depending on whether you wanted to wager on a driver to finish in the top 3 or top 5, the payout for such a win is based off a percentage of their odds to win the race.

Typically these are not wagers that I look to play unless there is a clear edge. If you feel that there is value on a driver to finish in the top 5 or even top 3, then the payout scale favors betting on that driver to win the race at a smaller investment. In most cases the smaller investment allows the bettor to be able to make a wager on a second or even third driver to win the race. Without question, there is strength in numbers when it comes to wagering on drivers that have a great shot to win entering a race.
