Hole-in-One Odds Make For Great Masters Prop Bets

The 2023 PGA season is here, with the Masters starting the action. The Masters is the season’s first major PGA Tour event and always proves highly popular with bettors. There’s never a shortage of Masters prop bets, a novel way to follow the action and make the most out of the betting experience.

One of the go-to prop bets in Masters betting on all online sportsbooks is undoubtedly the hole-in-one prop. Augusta National is a challenging course, but several golfers have found a way to find the pin in one shot over the years. Perhaps Rory McIlroy or Jordan Spieth will add his name to the list this year.

Popular Masters Prop Bets

Betting on who might make a hole-in-one during a PGA event is only one of the prop bets available. Bettors can also wager on the nationality of the winner – maybe South Africa’s Dylan Frittelli or Spain’s Jon Rahm will capture the event.

There’s also a chance to place Masters golf odds on if someone might break the record for the least number of strokes. That record is currently held by Nick Price and Greg Norman, who each completed the course in 63. For both, that was -9 under par, with Price setting the record in 1986 before Norman matched him a decade later.

Another, and somewhat more challenging, wager among the Masters golf prop bets is the Double Eagle. A double eagle, or Albatross, is a three-under-par on a hole and isn’t easily done. In all of the history of the Masters, which dates back to 1934, there are only four, and not one occurred at Augusta.

Masters Hole-In-One Prop

Bettors who like to wager on golf when making Masters prop bets are overwhelmingly fond of the hole-in-one prop. It’s a simple choice – selecting yes or no on whether a golfer will sink the ball on his first shot off the tee.

Before the PGA Tour gets underway, the hole-in-one odds are long for all players. However, based on their initial performances, this could change. Heading into the Masters, McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are getting odds of +5000, while others, including Tiger Woods and Brooks Koepka, trail behind at +5500.

The players with the longest odds – at +10000 – are Vijay Singh, Fred Couples, Matthew McClean, and several others.

Hole-In-Ones Are Once-In-A-Lifetime Shots

The first hole-in-one during a Masters occurred the first year the event was held. It happened again six years later, and three more times between then and 1959. It would be over 60 years before it happened again.

Some of the bettors who placed Masters prop bets in the 2021 event found success with their wagers. Tommy Fleetwood scored a hole-in-one on hole 16, aka “Redbud,” with bettors winning against odds of -150.

Augusta has seen 24 hole-in-ones on the 16th hole, a distance of 170 yards. The most difficult hole is Number 4, dubbed Flowering Crab Apple, which is 240 yards from tee to cup. No player has yet to reach it in one shot.
