Who are the favorites to win the 2022 British Open Championship?

Matt Fitzpatrick won the US Open and is one of the favorites for the British Open. Will Zalatoris has come up just short in several major championships, so his odds reflect his great performances. Can he finally finish the job?

Tiger Woods is planning to make a return to play at one of his favorite golf courses. It will be interesting to see if he can hold up.

There's a lot of drama in golf right now with the LIV Tour. Some of these names could be banned from the tournament, but a final ruling has yet to be decided.

British Open Picks

My three favorite picks for The Open are Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Will Zalatoris. It's been a while since McIlory has won a major, but he's been playing much better so far this year. I think it's only a matter of time before he wins another. There's a reason he's the favorite.

Zalatoris can't seem to get over the hump. I will definitely bet him to finish in the Top 5. And Scheffler has been playing terrific golf all year. He was close again in the US Open, so I can see him competing on Sunday at St. Andrews.

Which bets can I place on the British Open?

Online betting apps like BetMGM have improved the way we can bet on golf. There are many options for British Open betting odds. You can choose to bet on the end of the entire tournament or bet each day separately.

Futures – To Win

Before the tournament, each golfer will have odds to win. This is the most popular way to wager, but it’s also the hardest to get right!

BetMGM will have head-to-head matchups that you can bet on. Two golfers will be selected, and you can bet on which one you believe will have the better score. This can be for the day, or for the entire tournament.

Live Betting

As you watch The Open, the odds will constantly be changing based on the way certain golfers are playing. Live betting can be used to your advantage. If you see someone is playing well and seems comfortable, you can place a bet for them to win, or even get in the top 5 or top 10.

One reason we love BetMGM is because of the many options you will have for prop betting. These wagers are very fun and entertaining. You can place bets based on nationality, what the winning score will be, whether or not there will be a hole-in-one, and much more.

History of the British Open

The Open Championship is also referred to as the British Open and The Open. It is the fourth major, following the Masters, the PGA Championship, and the US Open. The first tournament was played in Scotland back in 1860.

The Open is played at the Old Course at St. Andrews every 5 years, which is more often than any other course. Here are some of the previous winners of the tournament when it was played at St. Andrews.

  • 2015: Zach Johnson
  • 2010: Louis Oosthuizen
  • 2005: Tiger Woods
  • 2000: Tiger Woods
  • 1995: John Daly
  • 1990: Nick Faldo

Players will finish on the infamous 18th hole, with a beautiful town view next to the Swilken Bridge. The winner will receive the Claret Jug, which has become the most popular trophy in all of golf.
