Providence Sports Gambling Locations
For decades, sports betting in Providence, Rhode Island, was restricted to pari-mutuel betting outside the city. Rhode Island gamblers had pari-mutuel betting at tracks like Lincoln Downs and Narragansett Park. Those tracks have now closed, and gambling in Providence is confined to lottery and out-of-town tribal casinos.
Tiverton and Twin River have tribal casinos that offer slots and table games. But following a change in the law in 2018, land-based sportsbooks were allowed to open at Rhode Island’s two casinos: Tiverton Casino Hotel and Twin River Casino Hotel (sportsbooks powered by William Hill Rhode Island). Rhode Island Lottery became the new regulator for sports betting in the state.
Tiverton Casino Hotel sportsbook is open for providence and all Rhode Island customers from 11am until midnight (9am-2am on Saturday) where players can be on pro and college sports. Twin River also has a state-of-the-art racebook showing simulcast greyhound and harness races from across the US.
Twin River Rhode Island also has a sportsbook bar and grill with over 100 TVs showing pro sports and simulcast meets. Both pari-mutuel betting and single-match wagering is available.
Online Betting in Providence (Rhode Island)
Senate Bill S 37 legalizing online sportsbooks was introduced in the Rhode Island State Legislature. Amazingly, for a state that had no legal internet betting before, Rhode Island has now become one of the few US states to regulate and legalize online sports betting.
Providence residents will be able to place single match wagers on pro and college sports on mobile apps via their smartphones. And the software looks set to go live in time for the start of the football season.
The law at the moment states that Providence sports betting customers will have to register their accounts at one of the approved casinos, Tiverton or Twin River, to start gambling. The casinos will have mobile apps once the system goes live.
