Prominent College Teams in Chicago

Northwestern, DePaul.

Northwestern was certainly better on the football field than it was on the basketball court.

Under head coach Pat Fitzgerald the Wildcats went 9-5 overall in football and 8-1 in the Big 10 where they got to the Big 10 Championship Game and lost to top-10 Ohio State. Northwestern did bounce back from that loss to beat Utah in the Holiday Bowl. Look for bigger and better things from the Wildcats in 2019.

In basketball, Northwestern struggled to 13-19 overall record and a 4-16, last-place finish in the Big 10. In a tough conference, improvement is not on the horizon.

DePaul’s basketball team did not fare well in the Big East (7-11), but went 19-17 overall and went to the finals of the CBI Tournament where i eventually lost to the University of South Florida. Improvement could be seen for sure in 2020.

Legal Sports Betting in Chicago

The Illinois House and Senate passed legislation June 2 that legalizes sports betting in the state’s casinos, racetracks arenas and stadiums.

The new gambling law will also allow online and app-based sports book to operate within the state of Illinois. Now it is up to Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker to sign the bill into law, which he is expected to do this summer at the latest. The hope is to have the sportsbooks up and operating before the NFL and college football seasons open in the fall. As soon as Governor J.B. Pritzker signs SB690 into law, which he is expected to do, online sports betting will be legal in the state of Illinois in 2019.
