Barcelona vs Valencia May 25 Preview

Barcelona go in search of a fifth consecutive Copa del Rey title on Saturday as they face Valencia in the showpiece final at the Benito Villamartin. The Catalans are the competition’s most successful side having secured their 30th title against Sevilla in last season’s final.

Despite securing a second successive league title earlier this season, Barca boss, Ernesto Valverde is under pressure having failed to bring the elusive Champions League trophy back to Camp Nou this season, losing 4-3 on aggregate to Liverpool in the semi-finals. The Basque manager will be hoping for a statement win, something which hasn’t proven much of a struggle for Barcelona in this competition. Since losing the 2014 Copa del Rey final to Real Madrid, Barcelona have played 44 Copa matches and lost just four of them.

It’s a tall task facing Marcelino’s Valencia and history doesn’t smile on them. They have met Barcelona 24 times in the competition and won just five of them, losing 13. Valencia and Barcelona have competed four finals, Valencia have only won one of those finals. The last time both these sides met in the final was in 1971, Barcelona won 4-3. The last time Valencia overcame Barcelona in the Copa del Rey was the last time they won the competition in the semi finals of the 2007-08 competition.

Game Prediction

Barcelona will be without Marc Andre Ter Stegen and Luis Suarez while Valencia have no injury concerns.
