Baltimore Ravens vs. Cleveland Browns Preview

Last season in the NFL, there were six teams, three in each conference, that had 12-plus wins.

Do you remember which team won the most games?

It might be tough to recall, but it was the Baltimore Ravens, who went 14-2, that took the NFL by storm last season.

Until the playoffs.

The Ravens started 2-2, then went on a tear behind eventual NFL unanimous MVP Lamar Jackson. Baltimore won 12 straight to head into the playoffs as the top seed in the AFC. But the potent offensive attack was shut down by the Tennessee Titans in a 28-12 AFC Divisional Round loss.

The Ravens open 2020 on the road against the team, and the quarterback, that came into 2019 with all the hype in the NFC North, the Cleveland Browns.

Baltimore Outlook:

That vaunted Baltimore offense scored more than 20 points in every regular season game last year; they were the only team in the league to do that, and to score on more than half their drives.

Of course, it was the play of Jackson that led the way. He was unstoppable at times for Baltimore. Jackson threw for 3,127 yards and 36 touchdowns (with just six INTs), and ran for 1,206 yards (an NFL record for quarterbacks) and six scores.

Baltimore led the NFL in points per game (33.1) and rushing yards per game 206).

Cleveland Outlook:

Baker Mayfield struggled at times in the offense, as the Browns went 6-10. But the organization signed and drafted some offensive line help, and Cleveland could have a bounce back 2020 campaign.

But it is on defense where the Browns must improve. They allowed 24.6 ppg., putting all the pressure on Mayfield and the offense. That might not change against the Ravens, but if Cleveland can get it down closer to 20 ppg., this could be a 10-win team looking for a playoff berth.

If they can go score for score against the Ravens, this could be the best contest of Week One

Odds:

  • Over 49 points (+100)
  • Cleveland over 20 points (-105)
  • Baltimore over 28.5 points (-105) (Buy down to 28 if possible)
  • Over 5.5 total TDs (-110)
