2020 Sanderson Farms Championship Predictions: Will Zalatoris Zips to Maiden PGA Tour Victory
An unprecedented field will descend upon Jackson, Mississippi, for the 2020 Sanderson Farms Championship on Thursday, competing for a PGA Tour event that’s grown in profile over recent years.
The fourth tournament in this season’s Tour calendar offers a substantial $6.6 million prize purse, with a little less than $1.2 million of that going to the champion. Colombia’s Sebastian Munoz defeated Sung-jae Im via play-off to take the 2019 title, becoming the first non-North American winner of the event since Englishman Luke Donald triumphed in 2002.
Sung-jae returns to the field in 2020 as one of the most fancied picks at +1200, but there’s no denying Scottie Scheffler as the overwhelming favorite, available to Borgata New Jersey customers at odds of +900.
Scheffler is back in the field for his 2020-21 PGA Tour debut after he was forced to withdraw from the recent U.S. Open having tested positive for the coronavirus. He’s finished among the top 25 in his last six competitions and has clinched a top-five spot in three of those, but can anyone disrupt the front-runner’s momentum?

Preview & Prediction
Despite the large field taking part at the Country Club of Jackson, there are only a handful of stars one would back pre-tournament to have a good chance of going wire-to-wire as leader—Will Zalatoris is one of those.
The 24-year-old already has 185 FedEx Cup points and has looked motivated to secure his PGA Tour membership—temporary or otherwise—ahead of next year. Zalatoris tied for sixth place at the U.S. Open and followed up with a share of eighth at the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship one week later.
His +1800 billing at Borgata Sportsbook still holds enough value to jump on the winners’ trail. Zalatoris hasn’t looked out of place playing among some of the sport’s biggest talents in recent months, with the Korn Ferry Tour leader looking too big for that particular pond these days.

• Korn Ferry Tour Points Leader has 11 consecutive top-20s on the Korn Ferry Tour, the longest streak in Tour history
• Comes off back-to-back top-10 finishes at the U.S. Open (T6) and Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship (T8)
A two-way tie for fifth or better this weekend would be sufficient for Zalatoris to secure the 103 points he needs to seal special temporary membership on the PGA Tour.
That being said, we back the San Franciscan to go at least a few notches better, making use of the weakened field to launch a run at the No. 1 spot as he pursues the exposure he deserves.
