2020 NASCAR Play-Off Predictions: Joey Logano In Position to End Kevin Harvick’s Tear in Texas

The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series play-offs travel to Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday for the Autotrader Echopark Automotive 500, a race won by standings leader Kevin Harvick three years running.

It’s no surprise the Californian is a runaway favorite to win the second race in this year’s Round of 8—listed at short odds of +260 with Borgata, but there’s enough competition from the field to look outside the top pick.

Texas Motor Speedway has consistently featured as one of Harvick’s top tracks, finishing among the top 10 in each of his last 12 appearances there, winning three times in his last six starts.

No driver has won successive races since Harvick booked back-to-back victories at Michigan International Speedway at the beginning of August, but Team Penske’s Joey Logano has a beaming chance to break that trend on Sunday.

Harvick will boast an advantage from the off after The Athletic’s Jeff Gluck confirmed he’ll start on pole, but Logano has the best chance of usurping that lead on paper as he lines up at No. 2:

Betting Preview & Prediction: Joey Logano to win (+700)

Logano certainly offers the more appealing price to win on Sunday, and Borgata’s New Jersey customers can back last week’s winner in Kansas at +700 to follow up with another top finish. Kansas just so happened to feature the only other time Logano won consecutive races in his NASCAR career, when he clinched three straight victories at the tail end of the 2015 season.

The 30-year-old booked his spot in the Championship 4 following his win in the Hollywood Casino 400, and confidence can often prove the most efficient motivator in this sport:

Logano has also shown a liking for Texas and has 12 top-10 finishes from 23 career appearances, including 10 top-five finishes and one victory. He’s also the only driver still in the NASCAR play-offs to have racked up four top-five finishes in the last seven races; Harvick and Chase Elliott have each managed three.

Outside the winner stakes, Erik Jones looks like a solid bet to crack the top 10 at -209 with Borgata. Jones came 12th and 22nd in his first two appearances at Texas Motor Speedway but has since finished 10th or better in each of his last six outings here.
