Oregon Betting Racetracks
The state of Oregon allows many types of gambling, including tribal casinos, a state lottery, social and charitable gaming and pari-mutuel wagering on horse and dog racing. The state has a fairly small footprint when it comes to live horse racing – only Portland Meadows (Xpressbet Lounge sportsbook and social gaming with POKER, E-GAMES, FANTASY SPORTS, CHESS, PRIVATE PARTIES) has an extensive meeting of thoroughbred and quarter horse racing. The track is believed to have been the first thoroughbred track to conduct racing at night under the lights when it opened on Sept. 14, 1946.
The state also is home to numerous brief fair meetings featuring both thoroughbreds and quarter horses. Race dates have been approved in 2019 to operate in 2021 for the Crooked River Roundup; Grants Pass Downs; the Harney County Fair, the Tillamook County Fair; and the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show.
But the Beaver State has been busy on another lucrative front in the horse racing landscape: It has established itself as the go-to licensing jurisdiction for advance deposit wagering (ADW) providers doing business in most other U.S. states. The way that works is that various ADW horse racing betting sites get licensed in Oregon, then offer betting by telephone or internet to residents in states where either pari-mutuel wagering is offered or ADW is either explicitly authorized.
