Michigan Online Sports Betting
The legalization of sports betting apps in the state of Michigan was officially approved in December of 2019. However, the launch of the state’s first sportsbooks proved to be victims of bad timing. The state launched legal sports betting on March 11. The next day, major North American sports leagues began shutting down their operations to help combat the outbreak of the coronavirus.
While online sports betting was still on hold, brick and mortar sportsbooks opened for business in the Greektown Casino Hotel, Motor City Casino and MGM Grand Detroit on March 11.
Two tribal casinos announced plans to open brick and mortar sportsbooks that were slated to open in the fall of 2020, in partnership with UK gaming giant William Hill. The William Hill Sports Book will be located in the current Onyx Sports Bar at Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel, with a satellite location at Leelanau Sands Casino. Both of these operations are in conjunction with the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.
As well, the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians Gaming Authority agreed to terms of a deal with The Stars Group, which runs the FOX Bet sportsbook in the USA. They intend to operate a sportsbook out of the Odawa Casino Resort in Petoskey.
The Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians entered into an agreement with Australian sportsbook PointsBet to set up both retail and online sportsbook operation at the Northern Waters Casino in Watersmeet.
FireKeepers Casino in Battle Creek, operated by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi entered into partnership with Scientific Games to operate their sportsbook.
None of the last three casinos have set a timetable as to when they anticipate their sports betting apps being operational in Michigan.

The state of Michigan had bills in place to legalize sports betting, but their former governor vetoed the bills. Luckily for sports betting fans in Michigan, there is a new governor in place and she is in full support of legalizing online betting apps. There is a strong gambling scene in place in Michigan, and it would make sense that legalizing sports betting would be an easy transition.
There is one horse racing app that is legal in Michigan and that is BetAmerica. This app is used in many states throughout the country, and the state of Michigan has given it their full support. If and when sportsbooks launch in Michigan then look for the MGM Grand Detroit to be the first casino to launch a mobile sportsbook app. MGM Grand has a sports betting presence in the United States, and they should be able to get one up and running quickly.
Michigan Casinos and Sportsbooks
Just as with their lottery, the Michigan Casino industry is well-run and has plenty of options available to its players. There are now over twenty casinos operating throughout the state. While many of them are Tribal, there is also a strong showing of private, land-based casinos as well. Casino expansion has been going on few decades in casinos which has allowed other forms of gambling to considered for legalization and expansion. Many believe sports betting is right around the corner and, if it is, there will be plenty of casinos to house the sportsbooks.
Sitting in downtown Detroit, the MotorCity Casino and Hotel is one of three gambling establishments in the city. It is no secret Detroit has seen some tough days over the past few decades but there has been a genuine resurgence in the city and their gambling industry has been there to help. MotorCity is a one stop shop with something for everyone. Everything is available on site. Dining and nightlife, hotel and day spa, live music venue and casino.
The Casino floor is an impressive one as it sits, surrounded by hundreds of slots, filled with a wide variety of table games. There are also VIP lounge, high limit tables and a great poker room. The MotorCity has a great and easy-to-access locale so finding the place and getting around town are not a problem. Detroit is on the up-and-up and so is MotorCity.
Michigan Motor City Casino is expected to launch its online betting app and land-based sportsbook in May 2020.
Four Winds New Buffalo Casino Resort
Located on the westside of the mitten, Four Winds New Buffalo Casino Resort is a fine example of what to expect from a casino these days, even in less populated areas. While this Four Winds is located a short drive from South Bend, the facility has plenty of competition in the area and Four Winds Buffalo has remained highly-regarded despite all this. Their casino is a huge product with plenty to offer players.
Not only are there plenty of slots, table games and a strong poker room but, also, you can find VIP rooms, high-stakes tables, executive hosts and plenty of weekly promotions. They operate a hotel as well as several restaurants, bars, and even a music venue.
