Colorado residents can bet online with out-of-state and offshore online gambling operators. Sports betting in Colorado: Legislation & Bills
Colorado is trying to gear up for legal sports betting following the Supreme Court decision on May 14, 2018, that struck down the federal ban on sports betting (PASPA). States can now legalize sports betting with legislative approval.
Colorado hopes to join other states up and running so residents can enjoy betting on college and pro football and basketball, hockey, baseball, golf, soccer, tennis, UFC and other sports of interest.
Should any proposed legislation bills be passed to allow legal sports betting, the initial proposed locations for legal sports betting would be casinos that offer legal Las Vegas-style casino gambling about 30 miles west of Denver in Black Hawk, Cripple Creek, and Central City.
State legislators from both parties have advocated for sports betting. A public policy information sheet on sports betting is available through the Department of Revenue (DOR), which believes it should serve as the oversight and regulatory body for sports betting. The Colorado Gaming Association which oversees the states casino industry, and believes selected casinos in Black Hawk, Cripple Creek and Central City should have exclusive rights to offer sports betting.
Colorado legalized daily fantasy sports (DFS) in 2016. There are currently no new legal sports betting bill in place for 2019, so any public vote is still waiting for legislation. Legal sports betting in Colorado won’t happen until at least 2020.
