Mobile betting in Virginia
The state of Virginia has always been conservative, but things are changing in a hurry in terms of sports betting.
Virginia has seen plenty of neighboring states recently legalize sports betting, and they don’t want to get left behind.
The only problem is that there are no casinos in operation inside of the state, and it will be hard to get things up and running.
If, and when Virginia opens up sports betting, look for major betting sites to be trying to get in there to open up a sports betting app. Horse racing has been legal in Virginia for a long time, and three of the top horse race betting apps on the market are available to residents within the state of Virginia.

Online sports betting in Virginia – VA Sportsbooks
Sports betting in the state of Virginia became legal in April last year, but the state is still without sports betting options at this time. Virginia became just the second state to legalize the industry, and sports betting could launch at some point in 2021.
We expect Betrivers VA, bet365, BetMGM Sports, Pointsbet sportsbook and other betting sites to go online in Virginia soon.
When the sports gambling launches, Virginia bettors will only be able to place bets online or through their mobile apps. There can be up to 12-14 sports betting licenses issued in the state, but it’s unclear how many of these will be reserved for physical sportsbooks.
The legal age to place a sports bet in Virginia is set at 21 years of age.
Physical Sportsbooks in Virginia
There are five cities in Virginia that are set to get new casinos with the sports betting venues, as long as voters pass local referendums in November. These five cities include Richmond, Portsmouth, Danville, Bristol, and Norfolk.
All five of these properties will have the ability to apply for a sports betting license, and that will take up five of the retail sports betting licenses available in the state.

Virginia is hopeful that the Washington Football Team will build its new stadium in Virginia, and a retail sportsbook will likely be built at that site. More information will likely come out in the last few months of 2020 regarding the physical sportsbooks in the state.

Online Betting Apps in Virginia
At this time, there aren’t any online sports betting apps available in Virginia, and no operators have been approved for a license. Virginia will allow a minimum of four and a maximum of 12 sportsbook apps, but it is unclear which operators will apply for a license.
State lawmakers continue to adjust the language included in the sports betting law to entice operators to enter the state. As the laws continue to change and the state gets closer to launch, it will likely begin to issue licenses.
Free Bet Promo & Bonus Offers in the State
Without any sportsbooks receiving official sports betting licenses at this time in Virginia, it is unclear what the top bonus offers will be. We can look at similar offers from sports betting operators in other states to predict what these bonuses will look like.
DraftKings VA
DraftKings is currently offering new customers in other states a total bonus that is worth up to $1,025. This offer comes in the form of a free bet, a risk-free bet, and a deposit match.
PointsBet VA
PointsBet offers new customers a pair of risk-free bets that equal up to $1,000. Customers can take advantage of a risk-free fixed odds bet and a risk-free points betting bet.
FanDuel
FanDuel does not offer a deposit bonus, but they offer new customers a risk-free bet up to $500.
Teams to Bet On
Virginia does not have many professional sports teams, but the close proximity to Washington, DC, offers several great betting options. The Washington Football team and the Washington Nationals will be two of the most popular teams to bet on when sports betting launches. Virginia sports betting to exclude bets on in-state colegiat teams.
Top Betting Options
When the sports betting industry officially launches in Virginia, sportsbooks will be able to offer a large number of betting options. Lawmakers have given sportsbooks plenty of freedom, which is another reason operators are expected to pursue launching in the state.
All of the most common betting types will be offered, including moneyline, spread, and total betting. Sportsbooks can also offer parlays, teasers, individual and team prop betting options.
Live betting will also be a part of the Virginia sports betting industry, and this has become an extremely popular betting type for bettors in the US.
Sports betting is legal in Virginia, however no online sportsbook apps are in operation yet.
