If not, the state’s long involvement with horse racing, which dates to the legalization of pari-mutuel racing in 1933, may come to a close, though some other operators have expressed interest in running a racetrack in the Wolverine State. 

AmWest Entertainment LLC (Amwager) had planned to bring thoroughbred racing to Sports Creek Raceway, a shuttered harness racing venue near Flint.

However, efforts to conduct its first meeting in 2019 faltered when it could not reach an agreement with state regulators.
