Is it legal to gamble online in Wisconsin?

Right now, online gambling is illegal in Wisconsin. There are no legal online casinos or online poker rooms. So far, it has been a low priority for Wisconsin legislators to legalize online gaming, especially with no commercial casinos in the state.

But sports betting is going to take a turn. The first tribal casino is planning to offer sports betting, which may lead to others joining the party.

Fans can wager online in several visiting states and downloading the top Iowa betting apps or Illinois betting apps.

Wisconsin Sports Betting

Unfortunately, online sports betting in Wisconsin is still illegal. Since the Supreme Court repealed PASPA in 2018, a number of states across the country have begun to legalize sportsbooks. However, that has yet to happen in Wisconsin.

So, you can’t bet from anywhere in the state on Wisconsin betting apps. But some apps may be moving into tribal casinos.

Tribal Gaming Compact

The first legal sports bets in Wisconsin will happen during the 2021-22 NFL season. This is because of a tribal compact renegotiation by Oneida Nation.

The tribe operates Oneida Casino, which is just four miles from Lambeau Field, home of the NFL’s Green Bay Packers. Visitors will be able to bet from a kiosk, wagering window, or download the Wisconsin sports betting app that can be used on the property.

Oneida Nation has partnered with IGT to launch sports betting at its casino.

So, what does this mean for the future of sports betting in Wisconsin? Well, I’m sure this is going to be a success, especially because of the location. It’s likely that other Tribal casinos will begin to redo compact negotiations as well.

Giannis Antetokuonmpo, also known as the “Greek Freak,” is one of the best players in the league. He’s still young and will likely play many more years in Milwaukee.

The MLB team is the Brewers, names after all of the beer that is brewed in the state. With one of the best logos in baseball, but they are one of just six MLB teams that have yet to win a World Series.

College betting has been debated in multiple states. Some allow it, some prohibit bets on in-state teams. When tribal casinos offer sports betting, you will be able to bet on college sports.

The biggest collegiate program in the state is the Wisconsin Badgers. The school has had terrific basketball and football teams in recent years. Competing in the Big 10, there are tons of big games on their schedule.

Another popular college in Wisconsin is Marquette. The Golden Eagles do not have a football team, but the basketball team is very popular. It has produced players like Dwayne Wade and Jimmy Butler.

Wisconsin Online Casinos and Poker

Some states have made the move to offer online casinos and poker rooms. This gives people the ability to play online slots, roulette, blackjack, Texas Hold’em, and more, all from their computer or mobile phone.

Wisconsin online gambling remains illegal, including online casinos. The only way to play online casinos games is through illegal offshore casinos, which we do not recommend using. Not to mention being illegal, there is no guarantee that your information is secure, or your winnings will be paid.

But you still have options for gambling in Wisconsin. There are plenty of tribal casinos to visit.

Efforts to Legalize Online Gambling in Wisconsin

The only way that Wisconsin sports betting will be available in the near future is through tribal casinos. These locations will be able to offer betting apps, but you will have to stay on the property to use them. Geolocation services will have to prove that you are within the lines of the casino in order to place a bet.

But you will be able to download Wisconsin betting apps from anywhere. But when you want to place a bet, you’ll have to travel to the partner casino.

In the case of legal online casinos in Wisconsin, we don’t see anything happening in the near future. The only legislation that has been brought up addresses sports betting and daily fantasy. Without commercial casinos, it hasn’t been a hot topic.

Neighboring states Iowa and Michigan are bringing in tax dollars through legal sports betting, something that Wisconsin should address in the near future.
