Pimlico Race Course
The Pimlico Race Course is a very old track having been in operation since 1870. The facility is in bad need of renovation and it appears unlikely that the owner, the Stronach Group, is willing to invest the estimated $320 million needed to renovate the track unless the city of Baltimore or the state come up with a major portion.
The name was derived from an old tavern that was formed at its that was founded by Ben Pimlico of London when settlers arrived in the country.
Pimlico is owned by the Stronach Group and is located right in the city of Baltimore, making it the most accessible track for residents.
The Pimlico Race Course is home to one of the most popular races in thoroughbred horse racing.
The Preakness Stakes must be achieved in order for a horse to reach the coveted Triple Crown, which is the biggest achievement in horse racing. Along with the Preakness, other notable races include the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, The Dixie Stakes, and the Pimlico Special.

Laurel Park opened in 1911 and holds thoroughbred races in Laurel, Maryland. The track underwent significant renovations from 1954 to 1984 and even changed its name, which was changed back to the original in 1994.
Laurel Park is a flat course and owned by the Stronach Group.

The Rosecroft Raceway is a harness racing track located in Fort Washington, Maryland. With its close proximity to Interstate 495, the track has received the nickname “Raceway by the Beltway.”
This track has changed hands over the years since its opening in 1949. The Rosecroft Raceway was in its glory throughout the1950s with an attendance of over 7,000 people daily. However, the track saw a decline in the 1980s and eventually was closed down by 2010.
However, in 2011 it was purchased by Penn National Gaming in an attempt to make it a racecourse/casino and the Rosecroft reopened that same year. The track has hosted some notable races over the years including the Messenger Stakes, Breeders Crown, and Triple Crown of Harness Racing for Pacers.
