The American Gaming Association released September sports betting figures this month and the data shows that the month was a record setter for legal American sports wagering.
Nearly $1.4 billion was bet on sports via legal U.S. sources during the month. Forty percent of the money wagered originated from Nevada. There are currently 13 U.S. states offering legalized sports betting.
The total handle for the year via legal sports betting in the USA was at $7.8 billion by the end of September. Just $6.6 billion was wagered in 2018.
All of these numbers are expected to soon be dwarfed again. Seven states – Illinois, Michigan, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Tennessee – all either have voted to fully legalize sports betting and are preparing to launch their facilities, or have passed bills that are awaiting final approval to make sports betting legal.
