This past Thursday night, Kyler Murray had a chance to throw himself into the thick of the National Football League Most Valuable Player race.
But Russell Wilson shook off a two-game funk to lead the Seattle Seahawks past the Arizona Cardinals, and just like that, the MVP race became a little clearer.
Going into the rest of the NFL Week 11 schedule, the race has now been whittled down to three names: Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, and Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes has a MVP award from 2018 (and is the current Super Bowl MVP), and is a slight favorite right now (+165 with PointsBet, +180 with Fox Bet) over Wilson (+225 with PointsBet and Fox Bet). Rodgers is anywhere from +300 to +350.
All three quarterbacks take charge of current first place teams, and will get plenty of chances over the final month of the season to make their cases in prime time, either on Thursday nights, in the late showcase games Sunday afternoons, on Sunday nights, or on Monday nights.
Murray had the signature moment last week, with the Hail Murray victory over the Buffalo Bills. But he gave that momentum back Thursday, and gave Wilson a boost.
Right now, the Kansas City Chiefs need to keep winning, and hope that the Pittsburgh Steelers slip up at some point, to get home field advantage (is there an advantage?) in the playoffs. They have a relatively tough schedule in terms of their upcoming opponents.
After the Las Vegas Raiders (who handed the Chiefs their only loss this season), Kansas City has Tampa Bay, Denver, Miami, and New Orleans over the next month. If Mahomes has the Chiefs at 12-2 or 13-1 after that run, you can all but hand him the trophy.
I would probably put my money on Mahomes to win his second award in three seasons, and try to find the best value you can with him. If you can get Mahomes at +200 somewhere, pull the trigger on the bet.
