- Trade: Lakers: Get Anthony Davis
- Pelicans: Get Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, 3 No. 1 draft picks in 2019, 2021 and 2024.
The Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans competed for a blockbuster NBA trade that vaulted the Lakers to the top of the Las Vegas odds boards for the 2020 title.
The Lakers acquisition of All-Star center Anthony Davis has made them a 3-1 favorite to win the next NBA title @SportsBookUSA among other bookmakers.
According to @SportsBookUSA, the Lakers are the top choice followed by the Milwaukee Bucks (6-1), Los Angeles Clippers (7-1), Houston Rockets (8-1), the defending champion Toronto Raptors (10-1), Golden State Warriors (12-1) and Philadelphia 76ers (12-1).
Just after the Toronto Raptors won the 2019 title over the Golden State Warriors the odds for the 2020 season were posted and the Lakers, who missed the playoffs last year despite the presence of LeBron James, were among the top three teams according to the odds.
Rumors of the Davis trade were rampant throughout the playoffs as the superstar from Kentucky asked the Pelicans for trade and listed Los Angeles and the New York Knicks as his preferred destinations.
Once the trade was completed and reported Saturday, the odds on the Lakers shrunk and reached the top of the board.
Davis, who just turned 26 years old in March, averaged 25.9 points and 12.0 rebounds for New Orleans last season. The season before he averaged 28.1 points and 11.1 rebounds.
He and James form a powerful 1-2 duo for Los Angles, who will now attempt to sign an All-Star free agent to make it a deadly trio.
