Milwaukee Brewers Picks and Predictions

The Brewers have improved their overall record in each of the past four seasons. capped by last season’s playoff sweep of Colorado, then a near playoff upset to the Dodgers in seven rugged games for the pennant. Buoyed by that experience, should the Brewers make in five straight seasons of steady advancement, don’t be surprised to see Milwaukee out-race the Cubs and St. Louis for the NL Central crown., especially at PointsBet.

About the Brewers

The nickname “Brewers” has been used by baseball teams since at least the 1880s. The current incarnation is the city’s third major league team and second urilizing the mniker.

The 1901 Brewers were charter members of the American League, but moved to become the St. Louis Browns the following season; they are now the Baltimore Orioles.

Milwaukee thrived as a minor league baseball town for more than 50 years before the city hosted the old Boston Braves AL franchise for 13 seasons. However, the second MLB Brewers moved to Atlanta in 1966, but barely with MLB approval. The AL wanted a return to Wisconsin, and in the late 1960s, the Detroit Tigers played several series of home games in Milwaukee.

After the American League expanded by two franchises in 1969 — Milwaukee was excluded for more lucratuive markets — the Seattle Pilots were a complete disaster on the field with a stadium (Sick’s Stadium) which failed to meet MLB standards.

Pilots ownership was forced into bankruptcy after only one season. Future MLB commissioner Bud Selig acquired the franchise for his hometown, thus, in 1970, Milwaukee gained its third MLB team.

After Selig became commissioner, he “volunteered his” ballclub to switch to the National League in 1998 to balance scheduling. When inter-league play became the norm, the Houston Astros switched from the NL to the AL to place 15 teams in both leagues.

After shortstop Orlando Arcia batted .375 in the 2018 NLCS, expectations are high in Wisconsin. Right fielder Christian Yelich is the big gun for power, average and speed on the bases. Should veteran LF Ryan Braun keep producing, the Brewers will be a diffiuclt ballclub for opponents.

Starters Zach Davies and Brandon Woodruff are co-aces of the pitching staff, so a third arm will be needed to make Milwaukee truly dangerous in postseason play. Also, Josh Hader now inerits the closer’s role after losing Corey Knebel to Tommy John surgery.
