Top-Seeded Lakers Looking to Prove Play-Off Credentials Against Houston Rockets
The NBA play-off picture has begun to take shape after one week of bubble play in Orlando, Florida, with the Los Angeles Lakers recently locking down the top seed in the western conference.
The Houston Rockets have their noses in front at the top of the Southwest division, but a meeting against Frank Vogel’s side on Thursday puts them at risk of back-to-back defeats.
Questions may be asked of the Lakers’ motivation following their recent 107-92 loss to defending champions the Toronto Raptors, but that hasn’t stopped bet365 listing them as -126 (1.79) favorites to get back in the win column Thursday.

Lakers vs. Rockets Prediction
The two teams meet having notched a win apiece in their two meetings thus far in the 2019-20 season, and it was Houston who swung the last encounter 121-111 when they collided in February. The Rockets have triumphed in 18 of the last 24 meetings between these teams and proved something of a bogey side for the Lakers, who haven’t scored multiple wins over this opponent in the same season since 2012-13.
Anthony Davis has been in supreme form for Vogel’s outfit of late and looks liable to run rampant if Houston’s defence allows it, showing no signs of letting up in their 116-108 win over the Utah Jazz on Tuesday:

The Rockets have an advantage (theoretically) in that they’re looking to move up from fourth in the western seeding while the Lakers are already safe. However, this Lakers lineup paired with their likely ambition to get revenge over Houston should see them pull through, but not by a wide margin.
Prediction: Lakers to win (-3.5)
