UFC Figt Night 148 Odds: Jonathan Pearce (+260) vs. Kai Kamaka III (-334)
Prediction: Kamaka III via KO/TKO
Kai Kamaka III may be the one stepping in on short notice to face Jonathan Pearce in a battle of featherweight up-and-comers, but it’s the card’s latest addition who deserves the tag as favorite.
The “Fighting Hawaiian” (8-2) looked great clinching a UFC debut victory over Tony Kelley in August, and all the pressure is on his opponent after replacing Sean Woodson on one week’s notice.
In what will be Kamaka’s third fight of 2020, he’ll look to hand Pearce (9-4) an awkward comeback after more than a year outside the octagon. “JSP” suffered a ground-and-pound loss to veteran Joe Lauzon when he last fought (October 2019), but UFC Fight Night 184 presents him with a major task upon his return.
Both featherweights have promise in the division, but 25-year-old Kamaka looks particularly special after going unbeaten in his last six outings, which is why he’s one of the biggest favorites on the card at -334 with Borgata NJ.
Pearce has lost four times in 13 career outings and tends to welcome a good deal of strikes, which works in favor of a power puncher like Kamaka.
