Tennessee is the latest U.S. state to offer legalized sports betting. The Volunteer State went live with sports betting apps on Nov. 1

The Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation (TEL) and its board are the regulators who are overseeing the operation of the state’s sports betting program and they are breaking new ground in the American betting game.

Tennessee is the first state to offer a sports betting option that is 100 percent online. In other states, partnerships with brick and mortar casinos and sportsbooks were made a requirement before an online operation would be granted the go ahead to operate within the state.

In most states, this plan also calls for the online site to open a retail sportsbook onsite at the casino. In Tennessee, there are no brick and mortar betting sites and no land-based casinos or sportsbooks.

There are plenty of local betting options for sports fans in the Volunteer State. The NFL’s Tennessee Titans came within a win of going to the Super Bowl last season. The NHL’s Nashville Predators played in the 2017 Stanley Cup final. The Memphis Grizzlies suit up guard Ja Morant, the reigning NBA rookie of the year.

Of course, online sportsbooks in Tennessee offer great welcome promotions for the first time players and additional bonuses for all existing customers.

You can bet on college teams in Tennessee

A bonus in the state is that Tennessee will permit bettors to wager on college sports teams such as the Tennessee Volunteers and Memphis Tigers. Many states prohibit wagering on local amateur sports. Tennessee will not allow live betting on college sports, however.

The state also won’t approve live betting on any pro sport unless the sportsbook has a deal in place to acquire official data from the league.
