2020 NFL Predictions: Carolina Panthers Claw Atlanta Falcons in NFC South Struggle
Thursday night football returns when the Atlanta Falcons open Week 8 at the Carolina Panthers, with a lore than bragging rights at stake for the bottom two teams in the NFC South.
Matt Rhule’s side have lost two straight games by a single score, but Carolina will be hopeful of a return to winner’s row against the 1-6 Falcons on home soil.
The Panthers (3-4) are 2.5-point favorites with Borgata, while the Falcons are available as +120 moneyline underdogs for New Jersey customers.
Carolina supporters will be buoyed knowing they’re 4-1 covering the spread in their past five games, much of which has to do with the accelerating form of quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in his first year with the franchise:
The Panthers’ No. 5 will be expected to play another key role as the hosts looks to seal just their second home win in 2020, ranked 11th for passing yards per game thus far this term (263.7).

Another major boon that could run in Carolina’s favor is the potential return of running back Christian McCaffrey, who has been missing for five weeks with a high ankle sprain.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported the 24-year-old could be poised for a comeback in Week 8, in which case the Panthers will have regained one of their least forgiving predators:
Rhule & Co. also have reason to be confident considering they beat Atlanta 23-16 when these teams met less than a month ago in Week 5 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Borgata offers +400 odds that Carolina will again win by a margin of seven to 12 points, or +310 that the hosts will edge the victory by one to six points.
