Colorado Sports Betting Launch ‘Went Great’ Despite Pandemic, Says State Gaming Director

The director of Colorado’s Gaming Division has said the launch of its sport betting functionality “went great” and was a “huge win” for the state.

Colorado passed Proposition DD in November 2019 to legalise sports betting, and four of the six sportsbooks approved to operate in the state opened their accounts on Friday.

The sports gambling industry has experienced huge setbacks as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, with most major sports suspended or delayed as a result.

DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM and BetRivers are the four sportsbooks now operating in Colorado, with SBK (otherwise known as getsbk) and Monarch Casino Resort Spa set to follow suit.

Gamblers can download sports betting apps through their smartphones, unlike in many other states where new accounts are required to first register at a brick-and-mortar casino.

Sports betting in Colorado is sure to gather increased interest in the coming months, particularly when the NFL, NHL and NBA seasons are permitted to resume after the pandemic.
