2020 NFL Predictions: Detroit Lions Prepared for Close Catfight vs. Chicago Bears in Week 1
“Lions and Bear and NFL football…oh my!” The 2020 season is finally at our doorstep, and a Week 1 clash between the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears in Michigan looks like one of the closest to call.
Thursday saw the Kansas City Chiefs kick off their Super Bowl defence with a 34-20 opening-week win over the Houston Texans, but Sundays are where the real action lies.
The Bears have swept Detroit in the past two seasons and won each of their last four consecutive clashes. Detroit met NFC North rivals Chicago more than any other NFL team—180 times in total—and lost just over 100 of those encounters.
That doesn’t change the fact coach Matt Patricia’s side are -157 favorites to turn the tide on this occasion, while Illinois residents can back Chicago as slight +128 underdogs with William Hill IL bonus.

Bears – Lions Betting Prediction
The Bears were a superior outfit last season and finished with eight wins to Detroit’s three. The Lions ended up bottom of the NFC North in successive years for the first time since 2008-09, and the franchise has never been fourth three campaigns running since the current division format came into effect.
Much has been made of Chicago’s quarterback situation and whether Mitch Trubisky is what’s needed as the shot-caller, though reports have suggested he’ll get the nod ahead of 2017 Super Bowl winner, Nick Foles:
In a competitive battle, Bears are expected to name Mitchell Trubisky the starting QB, source tells ESPN.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 4, 2020
It’s due to his progression, leadership and overall performance throughout camp. Nick Foles made decision difficult for Matt Nagy, but the team feels strong about its QBs.
For those not content with the moneyline odds, the Lions appeal at +165 to score first and win the game with BetRivers IL. Chicago’s defense is viewed as their main strength, but those backing the guests to surprise in attack may be interested in the +135 odds available for the Bears to score more than 2.5 touchdowns.
BetRivers also offers Illinois customers a range of “Local Specials,” such as the +350 odds that Chicago will record 10 or more wins this season. Bettors can also back Trubisky and Foles to combine for 35 or more passing touchdowns at a big price of +2000.
