Arizona is almost set to officially launch legal sports betting in the state. As the 14th largest state in the US, it will be an attractive market for operators. BetMGM Sportsbook is expected to be one of the first online sportsbooks to launch in the Grand Canyon State.
Created by MGM Resorts and Entain Holdings, BetMGM has been quick to launch in states that have legalized online gambling. The platform boasts a well-known brand that has led to a successful first couple of years of sports betting in the US.
Already gaining countless partnerships and ambassadors, BetMGM will look to break out the marketing strategies for Arizona, a state that hosts all four major sports.
Luckily, sports betting in Arizona will begin just in time for the 2021 NFL season. The Arizona Department of Gaming expects online betting sites to be up and running on September 9th.

Legalities of Betting in Arizona
Governor Doug Ducey signed a gambling expansion bill into law. It will allow for up to 20 licenses, with tribal casinos retaining 10, while the remaining 10 will go to professional sports teams.
“Gaming creates thousands of jobs for Arizonans, it generates tax revenue that benefits key areas of our communities, and it draws visitors to our state,” Ducey said in a statement.
Anyone over the age of 21 will be able to sign up for a betting account or bet at a brick-and-mortar location. College betting will also be legal in Arizona, both for in and out-of-state teams.
A fiscal note of SB 1797 said that Arizona sports betting could generate as much as $154.4 million once the market matures. It also estimates $4.5 million in licensing revenue.
The bill also legalizes fantasy sports and keno, but online casinos are not included.

Professional Sports Teams Partnerships
BetMGM has to have its eyes on a partnership with the Arizona Cardinals. Many of the other professional sports teams in the state have already agreed on a partner.
The Phoenix Suns have partnered with FanDuel Sportsbook, which plans to have a location inside Phoenix Suns Arena. Caesars Sportsbook’s partnership with the Arizona Diamondbacks will result in its location inside Chase Field.
DraftKings Sportsbook will have a location at TPC Scottsdale. It hosts the PGA Waste Management Open each year, which is the course’s most popular tournament. It should be exciting to see patrons betting on the results of the 16th!
Now, BetMGM is one of the operators that have yet to make an official partnership, but the Arizona Cardinals should be the ultimate goal. The teams will be license holders, meaning they will not be booking the bets, rather giving access to the operators.
Arizona Cardinals and State Farm Stadium
A partnership with the Arizona Cardinals will result in a sportsbook inside of State Farm Stadium. It’s a beautiful location in Glendale, AZ, that opened in 2006. The stadium is set to host the Super Bowl in 2023 and holds just over 63,000 fans.
Plus, it’s an exciting time to be an Arizona Cardinals fan. Fans should have no problem placing a wager for the home team!
The first regular-season game will be on September 19th against the Minnesota Vikings. Kyler Murray and Kliff Kingsbury have created some buzz in Arizona that may lead to more success than they have had in the last few years.
It wouldn’t be the first partnership that BetMGM would make with an NFL franchise. It currently holds partnerships with the Denver Broncos, Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Jets.
College Betting in Arizona
BetMGM is limited to what it can offer for college betting in each state. Some have set guidelines for prop bets and wagers on in-state teams.
However, Arizona will allow all bets on collegiate games. With the Arizona Wildcats and Arizona State Sun Devils having large Division 1 programs, it will be a great state for college football and basketball betting.
BetMGM Sports is already legal in Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington D.C., and West Virginia.
Arizona will quickly become one of the main markets for the sportsbook. It will be offering its $600 risk-free bet welcome offer for new customers in the state.
It remains to be one of the best sportsbooks for live betting, with the platforms including live streaming for select games. There are also tons of ongoing promotions for current customers. A partnership with the Cardinals would result in special boosts or promos exclusively for their games.
Even with the announcements of physical sportsbook locations within a five-block radius of professional sports stadiums, the most popular way to wager will be online via mobile app. BetMGM brings along an easy-to-use app for iPhones and Androids. Sports bettors in the state will be able to place bets anywhere inside the AZ state lines.
BetMGM will need to make a nice check out to the Cardinals for a partnership, but it is one of the remaining sportsbooks that have the cash to do it.
